Challenges

I must say I like the ad below, but is the message at the end well thought? Are they facing challenges because they suck? Or is it because the market situation is bad? Or are they just lousy comparing to competition?

I don't really care that much, while I am in a situation or position to make them face challenges even more

Bite that!
...and think before you post an ad or name a car. Think for example why Nissan Pajero did not make a breakthrough in Spanish speaking markets...

Have a great weekend you all!

PS Something little to ease up your weekend. I might have posted this earlier too, but it is damn too good to be forgotten...

Help Desk / Employee of the Month?
I think this guy should have been promoted, not fired. This is a true story from the WordPerfect Helpline which was transcribed from a recording monitoring the customer care department. Needless to say, the Help Desk employee was fired however, he is currently suing the WordPerfect organization for "Termination without Cause."

This is the actual dialogue of a former WordPerfect Customer Support employee (now I know why they record these conversations);

"Rich Hall, computer assistance; may I help you?"

"Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect."

"What sort of trouble?"

"Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away."

"Went away?"

"They disappeared."

"Hmmm. So what does your screen look like now?"

"Nothing."

"Nothing?"

"It's a blank; it won' t accept anything when I type."

"Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out?"

"How do I tell?"

"Can you see the C: prompt on the screen?"

"What's a sea-prompt?"

"Never mind, can you move your cursor around the screen?"

"There isn't any cursor: I told you, it won't accept anything I type."

"Does your monitor have a power indicator?"

"What's a monitor?"

"It's the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV. Does it have a little light that tells you when it's on?"

"I don't know."

"Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that?"

"Yes, I think so."

"Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall."

"Yes, it is."

"When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one?"

"No."

"Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable."

"Okay, here it is."

"Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into the back of your computer."

"I can't reach."

"Uh huh. Well, can you see if it is?"

"No."

"Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?"

"Oh, it's not because I don't have the right angle, it's because it's dark."

"Dark?"

"Yes - the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window."

"Well, turn on the office light then."

"I can't."

"No? Why not?"

"Because there's a power failure."

"A power.......a power failure?.... Aha, Okay, we've got it licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff your computer came in?"

"Well, yes, I keep them in the closet."

"Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from."

"Really? Is it that bad?"

"Yes, I'm afraid it is."

"Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?"

"Tell them you're too fucking stupid to own a computer."

Back in normal weather!

This morning we had at Helsinki area +1C, so almost at freezing point. Many cars had some ice on windows so it was a cold night. What proved we are back at normal September level with weather, was the sleet that came down from the sky several times during the day. No, the streets were not icy but still.

If you are interested to check out the local weather, go here.

Tonight it is estimated to go below zero, down to -1C. Hooray, winter is coming and we have less than 3 months before the Santa Claus, Joulupukki comes for a visit!

Food tips for Helsinki area

I had again a pleasure to visit the German restaurant Zinnkeller in Helsinki. Food was good, beer was cold and tasty - all topped with great company. I have told you about my favorite dish also earlier, but here it is:
Or was...I had the garlic snails as a starter and they were fantastic too. No photos available as I was concentrating on the meal. Good food by German founder, now in 2nd generation.

Check it out, they have had also several ice hockey national teams visiting so it is tested by many nationalities. GO!

Another tip is at Tapiola, Espoo: www.sushiart.fi
The name speaks for it self, but to clarify: Japanese kitchen and sushi. If you go for takeaway and are driving, you can stop in front.

It's not the cheapest option, while I still have not found anything good+cheap.

One more for the road:
30 meters from SushiArt is Kilim for Mediterranean kitchen. Great buffet and alacarte, genuine kitchen as the owner is Turkish. www.kilim.fi

Hetty - My hope to fall in love with vacuum cleaning?

I do NOT like vacuum cleaning. At all. My wife knows that too and hopefully she appreciates that I did it about 2 weeks ago.

This all might change as I have found Hetty!

Hetty could be my babe for Saturday afternoon, but still, I'm not sure even if they claim she is silent...
If you wish to make out with Hetty, check out online at least from Tesco at UK.

Finland Number Quiz - Suomen Lukupähkinä

Many of you have noticed that Finland has got a pretty good basketball team for a country of ~5 million people. Slovenia is the only country that I can think of with better success rate. What else you know about this god forsaken country in far corner of Europe?

"Everyone" knows in Finland we have hard headed people with good school system, veeery dark at winter time, shitloads of snow, extremely cold, damn expensive, high suicide rate, high consumption of coffee and alcohol, pretty blonds, sauna in every house and short summers.

Let's see how well you know Finland in numbers - Kuinka hyvin tunnetkaan Suomen lukuina?
QUESTIONS:
  1. How many lakes we have in Finland, size of over 500 m2? Kuinka monta yli 500 neliömetrin kokoista järveä Suomessa on?
  2. How many islands we have both at the sea area and inland lakes? Kuinka monta saarta Suomen merialueilla ja sisävesillä on yhteensä?
  3. Which percentage of Finland's land area is covered with forest? Kuinka monta prosenttia Suomen maapinta-alasta on metsää?
  4. How many kilometers is the road network in Finland all together? Kuinka monta kilometriä on Suomen maantieverkon koko pituus?
  5. How many operating airports are there in Finland? Kuinka monta lentoasemaa Suomessa on?

Basketball European Championships 2013 overachiever: Team Finland!

Even if it seems Finland is not going to make the top 8 and still are playing home team Slovenia, I claim Finland has overachieved in the games! Losing a bit over 20 points to Spain, current 2 time European Champion, is not bad. If the shooting % would have been closer to normal, the result would have been even less painful - but winning Spain would have needed a true miracle.

As said before (see previous posts), making it through from their group winning Russia, Greece, Turkey and Sweden was something nobody expected!

When we face the sports award gala 2013, I would say 2 category wins are already given: Team of the Year and Coach of the Year: Men's basketball team and coach Henrik Dettman. If the miracle of making final 8 would have happened, it would have been the Sports Performance of the Year.

Thank you www.iltalehti.fi for the pics...

Tomorrow evening Slovenia - Finland, then the "Wolves" return home - hopefully understanding they have played extremely well.

Viva Finlandia - Hyvä Suomi, kick some Spanish ass!

It is only days since I was in Finland - Spain football game, where the stronger candidate took what was expected: A win for Spain. In less than an hour we are in a similar situation, it is EuroBasket, European Basketball Championships and Finland is playing Spain. If Finland wins, it is a BIIIIG surprise as Spain is THE team in Europe.

B-ball is a fantastic game and hence there is a chance for surprises. Finland has won Greece, Greece has won Spain, which in theory means Finland should win. NOT!

Finnish media has listed some tips for the audience, if you understand Finnish, check this out:
http://yle.fi/urheilu/huovinen_vs_poikola_espanja_on_paha_-_katsojavinkeissa_gasolia/6831472

The following is from www.yle.fi;

Katsojavinkit

1. Seuraa missä kohti kenttää Espanjan huippusentteri Marc Gasol (13) pelaa hyökkäyksessä? Sijoittuuko hän vapaaheittoviivan tienoille vai korin alle.
2. Muuttuuko hyökkäysasetelma ja laskeeko hyökkäyksen tehokkuus Gasolin ollessa vaihdossa?
3. Seuraa sitä, miten Espanjan takamiehet ajavat korille. Päättyykö ajo   korintekoyritykseen vai hienoon vapauttavaan syöttöön pelikaverille?
4. Ricky Rubio (9) on yksi maailman parhaista takamiesten puolustajista, varsinkin pallottoman pelaajan puolustajana. Puolustaako hän Petteri Koposta? Jos puolustaa, edessä on kahden huippupelaajan mittelö.

Short, free translation:
1. Follow at which part of the court Spanish top center Marc Gasol (13) plays in offence? Is he located by the free throw line or closer to the basket?
2. Does the play set in offence change or is the effectiveness decreasing when Gasol is at bench?
3. See how Spanish guards (the shorter guys who control more the ball) penetrate to the basket. Does it end with an attempt to score a basket or with a niiiice pass to a team mate who has a chance for a free shot?
4. Ricky Rubio (9) is one of the best defenders of guards, especially a player without a ball. Does he defend Petteri Koponen (11) from Finland team? If so, we are about to see a battle of two fantastic players!

...if you wish to follow the stats online, it's here.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN...
HYVÄ SUOMI!

I AM PROUD / HAPPY TO BE A FINN - AS ALWAYS!

Today I can say I am more than happy to be a Finn, Finnish citizen living in Finland. I know that only some weeks from today I am fed up with the darkness, gray and wet weather.

To put things in perspective, at that point we are only going towards the time of the year when it feels the sun does not come up at all here in Southern Finland. For the guys living in Lapland, Northern part of Finland, it is not only "it feels like it" since up there the sun stays below horizon for ~2 months. Tough, hence we should better understand why we have one of the highest alcohol and coffee consumption in the world, as well as extremely high suicide rate.

Why am I happy then?

Let's not talk about the small home tasks, but I'm happy to say I have also used the vacuum cleaner this weekend.

WEATHER;
It is September and for example the average temperature last year was +12C. We have had all weekend +22 to +24C, sunny and nice. Fantastic!!!

FOOTBALL;
On Friday I got to see one of the best football teams and world class top players perform: Finland - Spain at Olympic Stadium of Helsinki. The goal opportunities were close to equal, Finland having two first ones, while Spain used their chances better and won 0-2.

Today I got to enjoy my son play a football game in sunny Lahti city. The game was played right next to the statue of Jari Litmanen at Kisapuisto.
Second game after his fairly long injury, HE IS BACK and I love to watch his games!

BASKETBALL;
Team Finland in Basketball, the "Wolves", lost yesterday their game against Italy, making a GREAT COME-BACK today and WON RUSSIA in the EuroBasket games after 2 overtimes!!! To put things in perspective, Russia has got 143,5 million people vs Finland's 5,4 million. Russia's latest big win was Olympic bronze at 2012 vs Finland has never ever won a medal in big games. GREAT GAME & WIN that takes Finland to the second round!!!

Seasons are starting at many levels so I also get a chance to watch some other games of interest to me. I myself need to be off the b-ball court for over a week so I gotta focus on other sports to consume the energy - no worries.

FOOD;
Yesterday I got to enjoy the best pizza in town with good company. As some of you know, that pizza is served at our place. Today I BBQ'd ~15 steaks, no need to say more I guess?

PEOPLE;
In addition to the ones mentioned above, several good moments, e.g. my daughter found a special dress for a special occasion to come. Today included an ad-hoc visit to a should-wear-a-suit-event wearing an outfit out of scope, feeling still good as the option was to stay out and see the key people in worst case only in a year or so. I also have had time for myself, which is good - thank you for the supporting / surrounding team :o)

Don't you think that all has been sugar & honey covered with flowers, while I will not let the downturns to impact too much. Dang, I will make my best to turn challenges into success stories...!

Have a fabulastic week you all!!!

Hyvä Suomi - Go Finland, Basketball HEAT IS ON!

The Europen Basketball Championships are played at the moment in Slovenia and we have heard some strange messages from there up to Finland;

Finland WON team Turkey, the World Championship silver medalists!!!
...for the record, Finland has got zero medals from the European or World Championships in basketball so it was a BIG win.

Today Finland played Sweden and the first quarter was some fireworks with 27-27 result. Well - the second round was totally different, with 21-4 for Finland and the total game win 81-60.

Important Information for Men and Women!!!

The follies which a man regrets most, in his life, are those which he didn't commit when he had the opportunity.
Typeryydet, joita eniten katuu elämässään ovat niitä, joita ei tullut tehtyä kun niihin oli tilaisuus.
