Life after Midsummer

We had the Midsummer this weekend, Juhannus in Finnish. To get more info about it, check my old Midsummer posts or from Wikipedia.

Since we are in Finland, it quite often includes milder or heavier consumption of alcohol. If you are among the heavy consumers, you might want to check the tips to cure yourself - the 9 tips are in Finnish so I'll give you a short briefing;

1. Drink a lot of water
2. Get your blood sugar level up
3. Take a pain killer - medicine...
4. Drink coffee, not the de-caf stuff but the real thing
5. Sweat mildly
6. Get some fresh air
7. Take a shower
8. Go to bed
9. Take vitamin B

Today is Wappu, the evening of 1st of May - Hauskaa Wappua!!!

In Finland it is THE carneval evening, night & day of the year when people get together. At Midsummer most run away to their summer cabins, the Independence Day in December is somewhat holy day which I wonder a bit, Christmas is Christmas, and at New Year it is damn too cold to celebrate outside, and Easter is also during winter/spring season without festive history - vice versa...

And of course have a great Queen's Day ...woops, have a great King's Day my Dutch friends!!!

...and since there is quite high increase of alcohol consumption during Wappu, let's give it a serious thought...

Alennusta Alkossa?

Jokainen meistä Alkossa asioineista on varmasti haaveillut siellä asioidessaan ruokakaupoista tutuista alennusmyynneistä - tietäen, että se on vain kaukainen haave.

Vaan eipä ole!!!

Kyllä, Alko on tyrkyttänyt poistuvia tuotteita edullisemmalla hinnalla jo pidemmän aikaa. Seuraava vaihe tässä kehityksessä on onnistua tinkimään Alkossa...!

Minulla on kieltämättä ikävä Belgian aikoja, jolloin ruokakauppakäynnillä saattoi tarjouksen pohjalta tehdä heräteostoksena esimerkiksi "Osta 6, maksa 4" -viinitarjouksia. Lauantaisin oli aika mielekästä ja houkuttelevaa käydä kaupassa, sillä juusto-, makkara-, ym. maistiaisten lisäksi pääsi usein maistamaan oluita, viinejä tai liköörejä. 

This is something which is unusual in Finland: Sale at the state governed alcohol store Alko. Yep, in Brussels it was normal to have sale in supermarkets also for alcohol, just as the tastings, but in Finland such things are no-no-no-no! You can surely buy the mild max 4,7% strong beer at the supermarkets, but all beyond that are sold in Alko. That mild beer can also be on sale, but due to heavy alcohol tax I wrote about, there is not that much room for pricing...

Viinit ruokakauppaan vai keskioluetkin Alkoon?

Normaali alkoholikulttuuri vie viinit ruokakauppaan, jossa ne voi ostaa samalla, kuin sen ruoan, jonka kanssa viini nautitaan. Niin sanon minäkin, aivan kuten moni muukin...

Nyt muutamat kukkahattutädit ovat poliittisilla, ideologisilla tai omahyväisillä taloudellisilla motiiveilla kieltämässä keskioluen myyntiä perjantai-iltana klo 18 jälkeen ja viikonlopuiksi lisää kieltoja. Jos tähän päälle vietäisiin keskiolut ainoastaan Alkon myyntiin, hieroisivat mm. Viron alkoholikauppiaat tyytyväisinä käsiään.

Törmäsin erittäin mielenkiintoiseen kirjoitukseen näitä muutoksia ajavien henkilöiden taustoista ja linkityksistä, jotka herättävät ajatuksia. Suosittelen lukemaan, kirjoittaja on tehnyt paljon taustatyötä ja käsittääkseni ilman mitään korvausta - toisin kuin rajoituksia lobbaavat...
