THE Lunch of the Summer

Finally I had a chance to take my kids for a lunch - in a restaurant in the middle of a working day. THE lunch of the summer!!! It didn't require bells, whistles, balloons, music or showtime, neither any serious discussions, to make it a GREAT moment at least for myself. The food and the company is enough to make it!

If you are into a good steak at plain steakhouse style - or a bit closer to a grill style, go to the Grill Toro at Pohjantori, Espoo, Finland. Nothing fancy, straight forward steak & chips (French fries). Even the side salad is something you shouldn't mention.

What is worth mentioning, is the Ville Vallaton ice cream, Finnish version of the famous Dennis Menace. Enjoying that outside in the sun, doing nothing. Not bad...!

...there is a reason why the place has been open, live and busy since 1970.

Hyvää Äitienpäivää - Happy Mothers Day!

In Finland and some other countries on 2nd Sunday of May the mothers are in the flashlights. Traditionally children treat their mother on that day better than average, which is good. In principle.

I propose to all children - which all of us are as we all are from a mother - that we treat the mothers better than average 365 days a year!

Yes, it also rises the average which is the key point...

Go Mothers!!!

HYVÄÄ ÄITIENPÄIVÄÄ!

Hyvä Blues, Hyvä Honka, Hyvä Honka!

Yep, I'm still alive even if my words have not found this site.

The Blues
My home town sports flagship teams in the sports I'm interested in are all in interesting situation. Blues in ice hockey, Honka in basketball and Honka in football (soccer for some of you). Let's bite them one by one...

Unfortunately the Blues are now out from this year's playoffs. JYP from Jyväskylä beat them 4-0 in quarter finals hence no excuses, better team won.

Now the players like Bracken Kearns can focus on their family & kids. I happen to know this morning he was rolling on the floor with his about 2 years old daughter. He apparently was more on top of the situation than Tuomo Ruutu last summer when he lost his kid for a while at Hoplop indoor adventure park in Espoo...

I'm glad I went to the first playoff home game as the 2nd one I missed for a different culture reason, Ystävän Risti concert at church of Espoonlahti, lead by a local music industry 2nd generation legend Ile Vainio.

Tapiolan Honka
My basketball club Tapiolan Honka with long and glorious history has been back in the top league for the 2nd season after a visit at the 2nd highest level. The drop was due to bad financial situation of the separated league team. Now the team is on the last place in the league and the last team is supposed to drop one level down.

But what does the Finnish Basketball Association do?
They decide to expand the league from 11 to 12 teams. It has not yet been (at least not published) how the extra spot will be filled, while my best quess is they will keep Honka up and rise the winner of the 2nd level.

Why to keep Honka even if they should be dropped?
Well, it is the biggest basketball club in Finland with 1000+ juniors and 1 of the 2 teams in the capital area in the league. The other team, Helsinki Seagulls, does not have such junior operations... This is why I'd put my money on Honka playing the league also next year!

FC Honka
Another great club FC Honka with sad stories around the flagship team that has been separated from the main club running the junior operations. The league team lost its place in the league and now they are kicking off a fresh start from the 3rd highest level with new background team (you can follow them at Twitter). The team with mainly young talents completed with some experienced guys willing to take the challenge to boost the club back into the spotlights.

To make a one-man-statement, I will most probably get a season ticket for the upcoming season. The price also should be at the level that I don't mind if I miss half of the games...

So... 3 sports, 3 clubs, 2 names, 3 different situations. I love sports!!!

Now I'm off to watch FC Honka juniors game, missing an overlapping Tapiolan Honka juniors game - which will be covered by another one tomorrow.

Have a sporty weekend!

Fathers Day Sushi - Isänpäivä Sushi

For me the genuine fathers day is 365 days a year and sometimes 366. Today the lunch was
more than delicious sushi from Sushiart www.sushiart.fi at my hoods Tapiola, Espoo, Finland.

If you want to eat onsite, it is smart to book a table as the place is quite small. You should combine a dinner with a movie at next door Kino Tapiola, the classic place...

Happy Fathers Day to all of us, BIG smile and love to my children & wife who have made this possible!!!

Hyvää Isänpäivää!!!

Hyvää Äitienpäivää - Happy Mothers' Day!

I congratulate all the mothers around the world; Hyvää Äitienpäivää - Happy Mothers' Day!

My kids are already big and it was again joyful to watch my son play football! It is fantastic to watch your child do whatever they do, learning different things in life. If you think of it, it is foolish to watch a child sleep, but all fathers and mothers know what I'm talking about...
This particular kid had a nap outdoors - what could be better than sleep in fresh air? Some of you think it is too cold, but I can tell you it is perfectly fine to let a baby sleep outdoors even at winter, you just need to dress properly.

...the guys in Winter War didn't have an option, they had to live out in the woods for weeks hence you just need to equip and adjust. As many of us know, Finns were in better situation vs the Soviet Union soldiers.

Talking about our Eastern neighbours;
There is Finland vs Russia World Championships game going on and I am shocked and dissapointed about the lack of respect to other players by Russian Vadim Shipachyov. UGLY tackle, shame on you and no penalty! Few moments later a Finn is sent for penalty when Russian player dives... Finns play crap ice hockey at the moment so we can't expect too much from these games if this continues.

Still, have a great week you all!

A picture tells more than 1000 words!

FANTASTIC!!!

That is the first English word that comes to mind when thinking of the pictures on the site linked below. The second word would perhaps be AMAZING or OVERWHELMING... Some of you might need a tissue, just make sure you read the titles when ever they are available. For some I'd really wish to get them, particularly to get to know what is the story behind - or at least the cover of the story.

Take in minimum 5 minutes to check the pictures, have a thorough look at them, read the headlines and let your mind fly!

These two were my favorites;

More of Bar Filemon at Fuengirola, Spain: Rent or buy it!

Referring to my previous post;

Rent or buy Bar Filemon at Fuengirola, Spain so we get it opened again - and the history of the place gets a contingency.

If you are interested, call +34 667 0411 24 or +34 645 5657 48...

To amuse you for today, I will share you a pic of one of the most ugly cars ever made: Fiat Multipla!

This was taken around the corner from Filemon. This would be a perfect car for teenage kids, the new drivers as where ever you are in the car, you are clearly visible and have no chance for kissing out of sight...

Have a great rest of the week!

Daycare Show North Korean Style - Pohjois Korealainen Päiväkoti Esitys

Everyone should have a right to express their own opinion. Unfortunately for some people in some countries doing that causes problems, but I hope me telling you guys this doesn't mean I will end up in rehabilitation camp in North Korea.

Finnish tabloid paper's online version Iltasanomat TV posted a video taken in North Korea. It is about daycare children, perhaps 4-6 years old, singing as a choir in a show. Something quite surprising appears at the back during the show. Check it out from this link, wait first for about 10 seconds to view the commercial.

There is in the article also some pictures from the show. The kids also performed a play where brave North Korean soldiers capture evil spies. In the pictures the spies wear helmets, just to clarify to the non-Finnish-speakers.

Talking about brain washing from child age...

...eli lyhyesti sama Suomeksi.

Pohjois Korealla on vakuuttava tyyli muokata jo lasten ajatusmaailmaa ja toimintaa. Näin ainakin on tulkittavissa Iltasanomien jutusta, jossa videolla ja kuvilla, sekä paikan päällä olleen henkilön viestillä värittyy melko vahva valtiojohdon vaikuttamisen tahto.

Päättele itse, juttu löytyy täältä.

PS -17C expected for tomorrow in Southern Finland and -30C up North in Lapland, COOL...!
